Coaching FAQs
-
NDC takes dancers from 12 years old and up with at least 2 year prior ballet experience. Dancers should be consistently attending weekly ballet classes at a school whilst taking our coaching lessons. Our focus is on dancers who wish to take their dancing to the next level and pursue technical development.
We usually take dancers at an elementary- advanced level.
If you have a dancer 10-11 years old showing interest in personalised training, get in contact and we can see what we can do. Targeted Technique Development is really good for this age group if your dancer is a dedicated learner and able to take on corrections.
What about dancers 18+? If you’re planning on pursuing dance at a fulltime, advanced, or pre-professional level, we can help you achieve your technical goals too.
-

Choreography FAQs
-
The time required depends on the complexity of the routine, number of dancers and the dancer’s abilities. Solos and Group pieces usually take 4 lessons for a 3 minute work, not including any cleaning or training.
-
Jade mostly choreographs ballet, contemporary and neoclassical solos and group pieces, however she has also done lyrical and jazz group pieces as well as small groups, duos, and trios.
We can also teach you and train for a variation if you are working towards a classical ballet competition such as the Australian Classical Challenge, Sydney Eisteddfod or the Alana Haines Awards, please book a coaching session if you are looking for variation training.
-
If you have regular coaching sessions booked with us and have a dedicated time we can upgrade a few sessions to the choreography service. This will involve paying the choreography fee on top of the coaching session to lock in your time as per the usual choreography pricing package.
If the coaching session has already been paid, only the choreography fee needs to be paid before the session time. Once your piece is completed we can discuss combining your usual coaching sessions with cleaning and working through your solo, or booking an additional lesson, the choice is yours as long as additional sessions are available.
-
Contact us via email to let us know what you want choreographed, if you are requesting a group piece we will discuss further details before drawing up a contract.
If you are hoping to book a solo, duo, or trio, once you have contacted us, we'll send through a short request form where you can explain what you are looking for (style, type of performance, any inspiration). If your request form is accepted, we will send through a unique booking link where you can book your time slots.
Choreography sessions require a minimum of 3 bookings.
It is important you contact us first so we can be fully prepared and organised for your choreography session.
-
We would strongly advise a minimum of 2 cleaning sessions after your solo is completed. If you already have regular coaching sessions with us, we can combine cleaning your solo with coaching and do 30 minutes of each.
We believe having a solo is a privilege and would appreciate dancers respecting this by practicing and continuously improving their solo, whether that be through us or by themselves, or with another teacher at their home-school. When students perform their solos, they are not only representing themselves, their technique and artistry, but also their home-school and Nova Dance Coaching. We ask dancers to keep this in mind when performing or considering getting a solo, and continue to improve their performance in order to show off their best selves, as well as the best of their Home-School and NDC!
-
Whilst we don’t provide a professional recording, we do ensure your piece is filmed to assist with remembering the choreography in the learning phase.
-
We require 48 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling made online. Cancellations made within less then 48 hours will be required to pay 50% of what is owed. Rescheduling paid appointments can be made after the 48 hour period by contacting NDC directly. Please refer to our full terms and conditions for more information.
-
Parents are allowed to watch the final choreography lesson once the work is complete. We ask parents to remain in the waiting area during lessons to ensure minimal distractions and maintain a focused environment.
-
Make sure you have contacted NDC before booking a choreography session. Let us know what style you are looking for and what type of performance the routine is for. Come well-rested and ready to dance! Make sure to have a good breakfast so you can easily remember your routine. Take some time before your lesson to warm up and stretch.
